Theme:Democratic Governance and Popular Aspirations – Conflicts and Convergences

Publication Date: 1st August 2014

Last Date for Submission of Papers: 30th June 2014

There is a predominant belief in some academic disciplines that aspirations of the masses play a role in shaping the development trajectory of nations. ‘Aspirations’ may be defined as ‘social groundings of individual desires’ and on many counts, the existence of poverty and underdevelopment are closely and ‘brutally associated with a failure of aspirations (Ray, 2003).   Popular aspirations become more significant determinant of development when we contextualise a democratic governance structure with its complex web of accountability mechanisms largely reflected in the process of elections and electoral expressions in the form of manifestoes. As the year 2014 has been witnessing electoral processes mostly in Asia especially in Bangladesh, Iraq, India, Afghanistan, and Indonesia ,the forthcoming issue of the Journal of Studies in Dynamics and Change (JSDC) –ISSN: 2348-7038 will focus on the themes around building of popular aspirations and their culmination in defining power structures as well as developmental outcomes. Papers for the issue may cover linkages between electoral processes and development outcomes, manifesto analysis, party analysis from the perspective of development, media and electoral processes, corruption in electoral processes, reforms in electoral processes and so on.

The Journal of Studies in Dynamics and Change -JSDC is a multi-disciplinary platform for expression in various fields of social sciences. The journal seeks to publish original research work by scholars and other contributions in different areas of knowledge especially; economics, sociology, gender studies, politics, history. The scope of the journal is limited to discussions on systemic fluctuations, factors affecting such fluctuations and other issues. While contributions on theoretical and philosophical aspects of changes caused by such fluctuations and dynamic factors that bring change are strongly welcome, the journal is also interested in other forms of contributions. Please visit http://jsdc.lokkatha.com/OJS/index.php/jsdc/about for more details on the submission process and other publication related matters.
